The Ross Report is back! Your old pal, the straight shooting Sooner is back to dish out observations and opinions from under the black Resistol hat! As part of the revamped EWA.com content, I hope to be checking in with you on a more regular basis.
EWA had a helluva show this past week in Atlanta, Georgia with a night of twists, turns and wall-to-wall action. I was on the edge of my seat for two of the darndest title bouts I've seen in recent memory on the program. Nobody does action like the EWA and Sunday Night SLAM proved that once again this past week.
Hornswoggle and the Great Khali make perhaps the biggest oddball pairing in wrestling history, at least when we're talking size disparity. After what they did to Santino Marella a few weeks back on Metal Mayhem, it's hard to believe that anyone can stand up to the giant and his malcontent imp of a partner. Khali leveled Joe Gomez and Ken Raper Junior this past week. Should they seek retribution? I don't like the boys' chances.
I was happy to see Dante Chen and Mike Sydal compete this past week as well. I have high hopes that the duo will do well on their own careers once they get rolling in EWA. There is a good deal of potential there between the two young men, and man is the door wide open right now for young wrestlers to build some momentum. Chen has been bogged down with drama with his partner Kenso Suzuki, but it seems like a clean break may be in his future and the victory on SLAM is a start in the right direction.
We also got another look at Von Wagner this past week. He's set to debut on EWA USA this weekend. I'm not a fan of Robert Stone, he strikes me as the veritable "snake in the grass" but Wagner has a decorated collegiate background. However, some of his life experiences, as some of you may know, are tragic, perverse, disgusting, and surreal.
Ash by Elegance had some harsh words for the man who managed her opponent on Sunday, calling him out of touch. As someone who is a bit elder himself, I didn't take kind to the brash young lady's attitude. That was unfair criticism in my opinion.
It was good showing for Malakai Black and Tara Zep this past week as well. One thing I'm particularly excited about is the new generation of EWA stars coming to the forefront in recent months. It's always exciting when a new chapter begins as one story comes to a close and both of those talents look like characters to watch.
The less that's said about Jeff Jarrett's plan to enter Lethal Lottery as a solidified tag team, the better. It seems he's always scheming some way to stay on top and keep the coveted EWA World Tag Team Championships along with him.
I’ll confess that I never expected the tension between Kevin Nash and Val Venis to get to this point. Those two men were once close friends, alongside Diamond Dallas Page, but it seems that the entire group is in turmoil. If there's one thing I've learned in my decades in this industry is that no matter how well you think you know someone, no matter how long you've been a part of their life, they will shove a knife deep into your back at the first opportunity to advance themselves. Unfortunately that's a lesson that Val Venis is having to learn the hard way.
Nia Jax is an absolute dominant force in the ring and she was within a cat's whisker of claiming Tam Nakano's EWA Women's Championship it seemed. Nakano should be thanking her lucky stars she got out of the State Farm Arena with her belt, but Saraya made sure that she did not leave unscathed. Jax did some heavy lifting too, of course. My Sooners could use Jax in goal line situations this fall, but I don't think she has eligibility in the league!
The main event was controversial and contentious as all great bouts are, but I really thought R-Truth had the "Modern Day Maharaja" on a few occasions. My old associate Jim Cornette is not likely to be happy having come out of retirement just to come up short thanks to the outside interference of Ash by Elegance. Cornette's legacy isn't about one night in Georgia, however, and I have a feeling his return will cover lots of ground. I'm not a believer in karma, but I do think that when Ron Killings gets another opportunity to get his hands on Jinder Mahal, the latter will get what's coming to him.
If you haven't seen this past week's SLAM, check your local listing for a replay. It was a superb night of action. I highly recommend it.
