2023 EWA AWARDS

E-Wrestling Alliance continues to move on through highs and lows, as another year is in the record books. EWA thrives because of the dedicated men and women who work each and every week to make it special. Outlasting all it's contemporaries and defying the odds while continuing the be the standard bearer for what an e-fed can be. This year was no exception and we saw many new talents rise to the top, old talents return to prominence, while others reinvented themselves or faded away. Let us now take a look back at the year that was and celebrate all those who contributed. The following winners were voted on by the fans and participants of the EWA and reflect what YOU believe were the best moments of the past year.

2023 Newcomer of the Year

COLBY CORINO

Although Colby Corino actually appeared on EWA television many years ago and even won a few matches but it was 2023 that saw him officially become a full-time member of the roster. His impressive tag team with veteran Jeff Jarrett and spurning of his legendary EWA HOF father Steve Corino allowed him to impress the voters enough to take this award. Dominik Mysterio was nipping at his heels with Tam Nakano in third and Brady Booker in a very close fourth place. This was a hotly contested category this year with many bright new talents signed to the EWA.

Cody Rhodes led the pack in this category returning to the EWA in a major way this past year. 2023 was very much the year of Cody Rhodes in more ways than one. Asuka earned second place while a dark horse candidate Heath Slater managed to snag third place.

This was a wide open category with votes for nearly every match on the ballot. In the end Dominik Mysterio's comeuppance in the form of anything but an Autograph Match with Cody Rhodes earned top honors. The wild Tables, Ladders and Guitars was a close second, with the Women's Monster's Ball in third.

Collision Course

Another field that had a fair amount of votes across the board. Ultimately it was Darby Allin's near World Title victory that captivated the EWA fanbase's attention the most. It was followed by Roman Reigns also very nearly capturing the same championship and finally Reigns victory in the KOTR final rounded out third place.

While the last few categories were close calls, this one was very much dominated by the Motor City Mayhem bout that saw Sasha Banks dethrone Charlotte Flair and prevent her from breaking the all-time Women's Championship record by one day. Second place went to the epic SuperBrawl battle between Banks and Toni Storm, while the wild three-way women's Queen of the Ring match between Alexa Bliss, Chelsea Green and Tam Nakano took the final spot.

SUMMER STAMPEDE

Not unlike last year that saw several of these combatants involved in the tag match of the year, this year was about major rivalries coming to a head in a big way. Cody Rhodes teamed with the Vegas Connection against Sefa Fatu and the Usos which led to it earning the top nod this year. It was followed closely by the wild four team showdown at Civil War and an equally unusual tag team three-way bout.

2nd. - Runner Up	Grayson Waller wins Drew McIntyre's contract and makes his life a living hell

CORINO/JARRETT LOVE-HATE RELATIONSHIP

Love and hatred was a recurring thread through all of the top voted storylines of 2023. Two teams who worked together to claim gold but also hated each other took the top two honors, while a twisted tryst of unholy lust took third place. With Corino and Jarrett managing to secure the EWA World Tag Team Titles at the end of the year, one can only imagine what 2024 holds for them.

Diamond Dallas Page's quest to defeat the "Candyman" for the EWA Television Championship over the last few months of 2023 clearly drew interest from a lot of the voters as it managed to take top honors by a fairly large margin. Asuka and Tam Nakano's feud over a stuffed panda and all the twists and turns along the way scored second, with the Samoan bruisers battling for third.

There weren't a ton of stables in the past year but the unique pairing of three women and one man seemed to captivate the voters enough to score top honors for Saraya, Gigi, Cora and Dominik. Just below them was the return of the Vegas Connection, now an "Enterprise" that proved there was still some life left in the brand. Speaking of brands, the Major Players carved out a pretty good bit of brand recognition for themselves to earn third place.

CODY RHODES RETURNS/WINS WORLD TITLE

Cody Rhodes returned to the full-time competition in 2023 and eventually won the World Title for the first time since 2017 and that clearly was enough to earn him the top votes for this category. Rounding out the voting was the bizarre saga of the life and death of Bray Wyatt/The Fiend that scared audiences and lured voters in. Finishing in third was Sasha Banks' defeat of Charlotte Flair denying her a record setting reign.

THE WEDDING OF HEATH AND RHONDA SLATER - TEAM RHODES

There were so many fantastic roleplays this year of so many different styles. Drama, mystery, hilarity, innuendo. In the end, it was many of those things coming together in a joint effort from SuperBrawl-winning Team Rhodes that earned the top nod. Darby Allin's interaction with EWA icon Sting rounded things out in second with DDP's ode to the Florida swampland in third.

This wasn't close. Craig had far and away the most votes. We suspect he bribed his way to the top. Or perhaps his hard work and dedication to crafting in-depth stories with a multitude of characters was enough to earn him that honor. Chelsea and Jon both proved they can continue at a high level as well.

SUPERBRAWL XXIII

SuperBrawl is back baby! After not winning this award last year, SuperBrawl returns to the fan-favorite event of the year by a fairly large margin. This year's event was the twenty-third incarnation and it clearly earned a lot of well-deserved praise. Motor City Mayhem came in second. This Detroit-based twist on the Mayhem PPV provided a big boost for the summer event schedule. In third was the annual summer tradition Summer Stampede which was honored for its many competitive bouts.

The Chosen Sons are an unlikely duo as Jeff Jarrett and Colby Corino spent much of the year bickering amongst themselves, and yet, fans ate it up. They earned the top honors by a fairly wide margin. Another bickering tandem took second, while two very unlikely "Samoans" earned the third spot. Will we see more teams working in unison next year to make this category a bit different? Only time will tell.

This wasn't as close as you'd think it might have been given Charlotte Flair's incredible first few months of 2023. Ultimately Banks was able to run away with this award due to her lengthy reign as champion and the fact that she was able to dethrone Flair for the gold. Charlotte managed to snag second place, while Toni Storm, the woman who beat Banks for the gold, scored the third-ranked spot.

Cody Rhodes had an incredible 2023 and it has continued on into the new year. Almost nothing could stop him on his quest to become EWA World Champion once more, but certainly many tried. Rhodes rise to the top led him to being voted as the #1 wrestler of the year in this category. He's followed by the man who had arguably as good if not better 2023 winning both Civil War and King of the Ring, Roman Reigns. Will these two titans ever lock horns? Hopefully in 2024! Plucky underdog Darby Allin finishes in third for this top honor.

0.875 - The highest win percentage in the women's division for any superstar with five or more matches belongs to Toni Storm, who only lost once in eight outings!

1.000 - As far as the men's division went, Brian Myers had an unblemished record of 5-0, albeit it's fair to point out that he didn't exactly face the same high level of competition as the Auckland Asskicker did!

1 - The World Championship changed hands just once all year, when Cody Rhodes defeated Sefa Fatu, the first time in EWA history it's been as few as that!

2 - 2022 may have seen Sefa Fatu win two different events but last year saw his cousin do the same! While Sefa won King of the Ring and SuperBrawl, Roman Reigns would win both Civil War and King of the Ring in 2023 before coming within an inch of winning SuperBrawl as well!

2 - The most eliminations in the 2023 SuperBrawl Match was shared between four superstars, with Chris Jericho, Jeff Jarrett, Jimmy Uso and Roman Reigns all scoring two each!

2 - For the second time in his career, Kevin Nash got the luck of the draw at Civil War by entering last, after having also done so in 2012! That makes him only the third superstar to take that spot on more than one occasion, the others being Al Snow (2014/2016) and Bo Dallas (2015/2020)!

2 - As for Nash's Vegas Connection tag team partner, Diamond Dallas Page become only the second ever two-time Television Champion when he defeated Brady Booker for the title at SuperBrawl XXIII!

4 - After only being successfully defended once in the first 15 SuperBrawls, Cody Rhodes became the fourth superstar to walk in and then out of the Showcase of the Immortals with the World Championship still within his possession!

4 - When Chris Jericho and Old Dogg won the Tag Titles in early December, Jericho became the fourth superstar to win the quadruple prizes of the World, National, Tag Team and TV Titles alongside Christian Cage, Cody Rhodes and Santino Marella!

5 - The most number of eliminations in the 2023 Women's Civil War belongs to Isis The Amazon, with the 6'8" behemoth taking out five competitors before being taken out herself by eventual winner Sasha Banks!

5 - Also the most number of eliminations in the 2023 men's Civil War, with Val Venis turning back the clock! That now gives him 15 career eliminations in the match, putting him in third place overall behind only Al Snow (30) and Brock Lesnar (23)!

5 - The most number of successful title defenses by any champion belongs to Sasha Banks, defeating Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Gigi Dolin, Cora Jade and Saraya before eventually succumbing to Toni Storm at SuperBrawl!

6 - The most team eliminations in this year's SuperBrawl came courtesy of the victorious Team Rhodes, with all four members eliminating at least one opposing superstar each!

6 - The most tag team victories in 2023 belongs to the unlikely duo of Colby Corino and Jeff Jarrett, who won six of their seven matches as a team!

6 - The number of competitors in this year's Queen of the Ring tournament, with Alexa Bliss, Chelsea Green and Sasha Banks all getting a second chance after Asuka brutally attacked Tam Nakano, denying The Twilight Dream her place in the finals!

9 - There was a total of 9 World Championship matches during the year, including the SuperBrawl Match itself!

10 - The National Championship was defended ten times throughout 2023, likewise including SuperBrawl!

10 - 2023 saw Chris Jericho make his record-breaking 10th appearance in the SuperBrawl Match, more than any other superstar in EWA history!

10 - Speaking of Jericho, his Tag Title victory with Old Dogg means he's now held 10 championships during his EWA career, the joint most of anyone alongside Charlie Haas!

10 - For the first time in EWA history, there were 10 competitors in the King of the Ring tournament! Jeff Jarrett, Roman Reigns, Brian Cage, Eddie Kingston, Wardlow, Bo Dallas, Colby Corino, Grayson Waller, Jeremy Wyatt and Pete Gas all battled it out, with The Hound of Justice walking out with the crown!

10 - The record for the most matches in one show belongs to Motor City Mayhem, which featured 10 hard-hitting and exciting bouts, including the finals of the first ever Molly Holly-Helms Cup!

10 - The most victories racked up by any female competitor was shared between three women...Chelsea Green, Sasha Banks and (for the second year running) Charlotte Flair!

11 - The Women's Championship was put on the line eleven times over the course of 2023!

11 - The unfortunate record for most number of losses across both the men's and women's divisions belongs to Chad Gable, who fell to defeat 11 times despite some valiant efforts!

12 - The SuperBrawl Match featured just 12 participants spread across three teams, marking only the second time the field has been this small!

13 - Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes shared the record for most number of wins in the men's division, both scoring 13 victories each! This was also the second year in a row Roman was in the top spot!

14 - The most actively defended title of last year was the World Tag Team Championships, with 14 championship matches in all, also including being defended as part of SuperBrawl!

14 - Sasha Banks was the most fightingest superstar in the women's division, competing in 14 matches over the course of the calendar year!

14 - The total number of title changes over 2023, with the World Title changing hands just once, the Television and Tag Titles seeing four new champions, the National Championship three new champions, and only two new Women's Champions crowned!

15 - For the second year running, we saw a total of 15 superstars participate in the women's Civil War Rumble!

15 - Somewhat shockingly, 2023 marked the first time in 15 years that Al Snow hasn't competed in the Civil War Match!

16 - Nobody wrestled more matches in 2023 than Darby Allin, competing 16 times in total!

19 - When he dragged Powerhouse Hobbs over the top rope to the floor, Roman Reigns became the 19th Civil War winner in EWA history!

22 - Roman Reigns made history once again by defeating Jeff Jarrett, Eddie Kingston and Colby Corino to become the 22nd EWA King of the Ring!

29 - The unfortunate accolade of shortest Tag Title reign of the year goes to Chris Jericho and Old Dogg, "The Wild Samoans", whose time as champions fell foul of SuperBrawl!

30 - For the ninth time in EWA history, the total number of participants in the men's Civil War Match was 30!

33 - Brady Booker became the 33rd superstar to win the Television Championship when he defeated MJF back in September!

42 - Toni Storm's victory at SuperBrawl made her the 44th Women's Champion in EWA history!

49 - The total number of shows the EWA put on last year, comprising of 21 EWA USAs, 19 SLAM!s and 9 Pay-Per-Views!

55 - The total number of championship matches during 2023, including the SuperBrawl Match where EVERY championship was on the line, baring the Television and Women's Titles which were defended separately!

56 - The shortest match of 2023 last just 56 seconds when the returning Bryan Danielson surprised Damien Priest with a roll-up on the December 2nd edition of EWA USA!

58% - The percentage of Civil War winners who've gone on to win the big one decreased this year when Roman Reigns was unable to convert his Rumble victory into the World Championship after cashing in against his cousin at Red, White & Bruised!

60 - When Matt Cardona defeated Darby Allin on the October 14th SLAM!, he became the 60th superstar to call himself National Champion in EWA history!

64 - After this past year's Civil War, the total number of competitors to have competed in the women's Civil War Rumble comes to 64!

75 - Chris Jericho and Old Dogg became the 75th unique combination to hold the World Tag Team Championships in EWA history!

75% - Toni Storm's victory at SuperBrawl means that 75% of Queen of the Ring winners have managed to go on to win the Women's Title!

80% - After Sasha Banks successfully cashed in her Civil War contract, that means 80% of winners in the women's Rumble have converted that victory into a championship reign!

82 - The longest match of the year (rounded up to the closest minute) was the men's Civil War Match, lasting a whopping 1 hour 21 minutes and 35 seconds!

121 - DDP's victory over Brady Booker at SuperBrawl XXIII was his 121st match in the EWA since debuting in 2011!

140 - The longest reigning Tag Team Champions in 2023 were the misfit duo of Colby Corino and Jeff Jarrett, who held the gold for 140 days before being beaten by Drew McIntyre and Grayson Waller!

203 - The total number of days Powerhouse Hobbs held the National Title, stretching back to when he won the gold on December 11th of 2022!

210 - The number of superstars to compete in an EWA ring last year, comprising of 144 men and 66 women!

232 - The amount of days Sefa Fatu held the World Championship after his victory at SuperBrawl XXII, the third longest in EWA history behind Brock Lesnar (273) and Samuel Shaw (238)!

283 - The total number of matches to take place in the EWA over the past calendar year!

300 - Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst became the 300th competitor to compete in the men's Civil War since its inception in 2004!

344 - Charlotte Flair came within two days of beating Sable's record as longest reigning Women's Champion only to be denied by Sasha Banks, but it was enough to give her the second longest reign of any champion in EWA history!

554 - SLAM! continues to be the EWA's flagship broadcast, with there now being 554 episodes as of the end of 2023!

2072 - The amount of days between the end of Cody Rhodes' first World Heavyweight Championship reign back in 2017 and his second after beating Sefa Fatu at Summer Stampede!

2401 - The total days separating the previous Inferno Match between Kane and Matt Hardy in 2018 and its return to settle the rivalry between Darby Allin and The Fiend at Motor City Mayhem, only the third time we've seen an Inferno Match in EWA history!

3780 - The number of days between the end of Heath Slater's first reign as National Champion and the start of his second as a result of being on the winning team of SuperBrawl!

6958 - A testament to how dangerous it is, this is the number of days between the first ever Barbed Wire Ropes Match in EWA history between Charlie Haas and Stevie Richards way back in 2005 and the brutal Barbed Wire Ropes Match between Doink The Clown and Kenny Omega at Summer Stampede 2023!
