EWA World Heavyweight Champion Cody Rhodes suffered an injury on EWA USA in his tag team match alongside Val Venis against The Bouncers. EWA.com received a video from the World Champion about the injury and his role in the six man tag match on the upcoming Sunday Night SLAM!
The video opens with Cody Rhodes sitting on a couch in his home, holding an ice pack on his neck and an annoyed look on his face.
CODY RHODES: Hey there, guys. I'm sending this video because I've been ordered by the doctors to not compete.
Cody winces as he moves the ice pack off his neck and brings it down, holding it in his lap as he continues.
CODY RHODES: Thankfully, the doctor said it's a short term strain and I'll only need to take a week off. Unfortunately, that puts my role in the six man tag team match in question. Thankfully, I have a solution.
Cody seems to be in some pain as he struggles to get the words out. There's certainly no charm, no charisma, no smiles as he talks.
CODY RHODES: I was able to put the pain behind me in the moment and pull out the victory for Val Venis and I. I probably shouldn't have put myself in a position like that, given my role within this company. I was just...in the moment. That being said, I'm asking Val Venis to take my spot in the six man tag match, considering it was Val who was to blame for my sprain in the first place...
The camera zooms in a bit as Cody stares into the camera.
CODY RHODES: Watching the match back, it was clear to me that when Val Venis rolled me back into the ring to tag himself in, he grabbed me around the head and neck area in a lackluster way and whipped me into the ring, causing a bit of whiplash and straining my neck in the process. Thankfully for our team, I was able to shake that pain off and secure the pinfall. Unfortunately, the pain that had subsided came back in a big way shortly after that.
He winces once again as he brings the ice pack up to his neck again.
CODY RHODES: It's just frustrating because I was looking forward to silencing a lot of the haters and voices out there that have been claiming I'm actively attempting to avoid giving Roman Reigns a chance at my World Title. This was going to be my opportunity to shut them up once and for all and then to have this injury...
He sighs.
CODY RHODES: In time, he will get that opportunity but it won't be this Sunday. I'm sure Val will go out of his way to avenge my injury and show the world he's making strides in his comeback in 2024. Colby and Jeff are tremendous teammates and know how to win. SuperBrawl proved that. Hopefully they can lead by example with Val on their team and show him the way as I did last week. That being said, I want to apologize to all my fans, but remember...Let's Get This Show on the Rhodes will premiere in one week and you'll get your Cody Rhodes fix soon enough! Sorry I won't be in the ring this week but I'll be with Colby and Jeff in spirit!
