2022 EWA AWARDS
Although 2022 ended FIVE months ago, there was so much going on after the big SuperBrawl event and things moved at such a breakneck speed that the E-Wrestling Alliance didn't really have time to sit back and reflect. Now that we're approaching the midway point of the new year, we are truly able to look back at this past year and remember the high points with some historic perspective. The following winners were voted on by the fans and participants of the EWA and reflect what YOU believe were the best moments of the past year.
AT LAST!
Newcomer of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | HOOK |
2nd. - Runner Up | Wardlow |
Winner | Powerhouse Hobbs |
2022 Newcomer of the Year
POWERHOUSE WILL HOBBS
This was a pretty wide open category this year, with almost every candidate receiving a few votes. There may be a bit of recency bias on display here with the winner, but you can't deny that Hobbs has left a path of destruction in his wake on the way to becoming the EWA National Champion. Nipping at his heels is the former TV Champion, Wardlow, as well as the current TV Champion, and Hobbs' stablemate, HOOK.
2022 Comeback of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Sharkboy |
2nd. - Runner Up | John Cena |
Winner | Batista |
2022 Comeback of the Year
BATISTA
This was one of the stranger results of the voting this year with Batista returning for a single match at SuperBrawl, but being a pivotal part of an angle as a result. That was enough for him to just barely edge out two candidates who undoubtedly did much more throughout the year as Sharkboy and John Cena both had good returns and solid runs much earlier in the year. But congrats to Monte who technically wins an award even though he did nothing!
Stipulation Match of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | SuperBrawl Match |
2nd. - Runner Up | King of the Mountain Match - Red, White & Bruised |
Winner | Carnival of Horrors Match - All Hallow's Evil |
2022 Stipulation Match of the Year
CARNIVAL OF HORRORS MATCH
Carnival vs Flair/Marella/Reigns/Usos
There were a ton of good candidates for stipulation match of year, including a violent dog collar match, a cage match, a few street fights and even a grueling submission match, but in the end it was the chaotic "end" of the Carnival that took top honors here. It narrowly edged out the historic King of the Mountain match as well as SuperBrawl itself in what was a pretty evenly distributed voting field.
2022 Singles Match of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Kevin Owens (c) vs Drew McIntyre (All Hallow's Evil) |
2nd. - Runner Up | Thom Latimer (c) vs John Cena (Snow Day) |
Winner | Logan Paul vs Sefa Fatu (King of the Ring) |
2022 Singles Match of the Year
LOGAN PAUL VS SEFA FATU
King of the Ring
There are probably dozens of matches that could have been nominated for this honor, but of the ones that were, three matches rose to the top. In the end the King of the Ring finals which saw Sefa Fatu overcome Logan Paul recieved the most votes. This was a pivotal moment in Fatu's career and cemented him into position to ultimately become EWA World Champion.
2022 Women's Match of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Charlotte Flair (c) vs Kylie Rae (EWA USA 6/18) |
2nd. - Runner Up | Aliyah (c) vs Alexa Bliss (Collision Course) |
Winner | Charlotte Flair (c) vs Lindsay Snow (King of the Ring) |
2022 Women's Match of the Year
CHARLOTTE FLAIR VS LINDSAY SNOW
King of the Ring
The women of the EWA have been an integral part of the promotion for years but it's hard to pinpoint just which women's match made the most impact. Fans believed that Charlotte Flair's title reign was one of the important parts of that puzzle this past year, nominating two of her defenses, ultimately giving the nod to her hard hitting bout with challenger Lindsay Snow. Aliyah and Alexa Bliss came in second with a good battle that showcased both women's talents.
Tag Team Match of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | The Decree vs The Usos (c) - (SLAM June 12) |
2nd. - Runner Up | Bo Dallas/Batista vs Ken Raper Jr/Joe Gomez - (SuperBrawl) |
Winner | Vegas Connection vs. The Usos (c) - (Summer Stampede) |
2022 Tag Team Match of the Year
THE USOS (C) vs. VEGAS CONNECTION
SUMMER STAMPEDE
There were plenty of great tag teams this past year and a lot of high profile or tightly contested matches throughout the year, but stories within the tag division helped catapult several contenders high in the rankings. However the clear winner was the showdown between the Usos, the team that dominated much of the year and the Vegas Connection, the team that dominated much of the last decade. The Vegas Connection were able to pull off the win and that helped cement this tag match as the most fondly remembered of 2022.
Storyline of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | The Carnival causes chaos |
2nd. - Runner Up | Al Snow wants to destroy the EWA |
Winner | Charlotte Flair/Samoans Rise |
2022 Storyline of the Year
FLAIR/SAMOANS RISE
2022 was full of a lot of twists and turns, including Al Snow returning as a notorious villain bent on destroying the company that he had been such a beloved cartoonish babyface in for many years, Doink and Luther forming a group of outcasts that caused chaos to anyone who cross them and much more. But ultimately the storyline that won this award was one that wasn't very clear at the start. Throughout much of the background of 2022, various members of the Bloodline and their associate Charlotte Flair, slowly accumulated power and success until all coming to a head at SuperBrawl where the team was ultimately victorious.
Feud of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Roman Reigns vs Doink The Clown |
2nd. - Runner Up | Kevin Owens vs Al Snow |
Winner | Thom Latimer vs Drew McIntyre |
2022 Feud of the Year
THOM LATIMER VS DREW MCINTYRE
For two years in a row, Drew McIntyre managed to be involved in the feud of the year. That may not be a good thing for McIntyre, because his rivalry with Latimer was one that saw both men cause a lot of suffering on each other. On that same note, the runner up was a rivalry that dated back years as former partners and unlikely friends in the tag team known as Snowens, feuded and nearly killed each other for the EWA World Championship in several memorable encounters in the first half of 2022.
Faction of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | The Decree |
2nd. - Runner Up | The Carnival |
Winner | Team Taz |
2022 Faction of the Year
TEAM TAZ
Although the Bloodline came together in 2022, much of their work was apart, while Team Taz worked as a unit throughout the latter half of the year. Elsewhere the Decree had a tumultuous tenure and the Carnival were as disorganized as they were successful, which likely kept them from top honors. In the end Team Taz is the only one of these three groups that still remains and that's likely part of why they were recognized for their work last year because they've taken that momentum into much of the new year.
Shocker of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Gomez/Ken Raper Jr. win against Bo Dallas |
2nd. - Runner Up | Thom Latimer turns on teammates |
Winner | Al Snow wins Civil War |
2022 Shocker of the Year
AL SNOW WINS CIVIL WAR
Talk about a shutout. Al Snow winning Civil War after over a decade of attempts completely dominated this category garnering 95% of the votes. It's no surprise that this surprise shocked everyone, as Al wasn't even announced and actually won the event wearing the guise of Doink, who incredibly, was also in the match! It was one of the all-time memorable moments in the history of Civil War and EWA itself and more than deserves this award.
RP of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Family is Forever - Team Flair |
2nd. - Runner Up | He Who Laughs Last - Roman Reigns |
Winner | Choices - Santino Marella |
2022 RP of the Year
CHOICES - SANTINO MARELLA
EWA always produces hundreds of fantastic and diverse roleplays each year. So many incredible creative minds come together to form so many different stories. From classic "promos" to deep "inner monologues" to crazy out of this world journeys and this years ultimate winner let you pick which one you wanted it be! Santino Marella's "Choices" was a "Choose You Own Adventure" style roleplay that pushed the limits of creativity and Seinfeld references as Marella prepared to face Mil Muertes. Runner up was a haunting Doink/Roman Reigns story in the middle of their feud and in a close third was the culmination of the Bloodline/Flair alliance headed into the biggest show of the year.
RPer of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Nat |
2nd. - Runner Up | Jon |
Winner | Chelsea |
2022 RPer of the Year
CHELSEA
This was another close competition, although only for second and third place. Several votes went to Craig who was just narrowly bested by Nat, who was just narrowly bested by Jon. But the winner was Chelsea with the lion's share of the votes, representing a good indication of just how valued Charlotte Flair's contributions have been this past year.
Event of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Civil War |
2nd. - Runner Up | SuperBrawl XXII |
Winner | All Hallow's Evil |
2022 Event of the Year
ALL HALLOW'S EVIL
With so many incredible events throughout the year, it's always hard to pick a favorite. SuperBrawl was as well rounded as it has been in ages this year, but it still was nudged off the top spot by one more vote for All Hallow's Evil. The annual Halloween event always has a lot of unique vibes that help make it memorable. Likewise, Civil War remains a favorite and with Al Snow finally winning it, the event took home a close third place.
Tag Team of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Worldwide Underground |
2nd. - Runner Up | The Vegas Connection |
Winner | The Usos |
2022 Tag Team of the Year
THE USOS
The Usos dominated much of the year and their chief rivals, the Vegas Connection were pretty much the only team to get one up on them. Worldwide Underground showed a lot of promise but never could break through and ultimately it came down to the Usos and the VCs, with the Usos leading the votes by a pretty clear margin.
Women's Wrestler of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Aliyah |
2nd. - Runner Up | Rhea Ripley |
Winner | Charlotte Flair |
2022 Women's Wrestler of the Year
CHARLOTTE FLAIR
This one shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Charlotte Flair clearly led the voting, much as she did the division for most of the year. Rhea Ripley, who won the women's Civil War was hot on her heels with Aliyah, the established and dominant former champion getting several votes as well. Ultimately Flair was able to get top honor and continue her pursuit of breaking Sable's long lasting title reign.
Wrestler of the Year | |
---|---|
3rd. | Santino Marella |
2nd. - Runner Up | Sefa Fatu/Kevin Owens |
Winner | Al Snow |
2022 Wrestler of the Year
AL SNOW
There was no clear dominant wrestler of the year in 2022, leaving this field with voting all over the place. Al Snow was able to claim the top spot for his work in the front half of the year, with Sefa Fatu's dominance in the back half leading him to tie for second with Kevin Owens, who controlled much of the middle of the year. Santino Marella was a factor both at the start of 2022 and the end of 2022, but because he wasn't as around in the middle it likely wasn't enough to push him to the very top. Regardless, everyone should be proud of their work last year as it was a year when so many talented wrestlers moved up the ranks in the EWA and competed at a very high level. The mixed and close votes certainly tell that story.
