Welcome, to the latest edition of the EWA Top 5!
A list highlighting the great work being done across the E-Wrestling Alliance, pulling together the top 5 individuals, tag-teams, or stables who we think have had a big impact over the past two weeks.
Number 5: Maxwell Jacob Friedman
MJF is on the hunt for EWA gold and that has come much to the detriment of Team Taz's TV Champion, HOOK. After goading the successful champ into a match on EWA USA, MJF took his opportunity to put the fighter down before the official even had chance to ring the bell.
One brutal beatdown later and MJF has firmly planted his flag in the TV Title division. But the question everyone now has to ask is, will HOOK even be able to compete? Was this MJF's master plan to claim the title all along? Or, was he simply sending a message to HOOK and the rest of the locker room?
Number 4: Val Venis
Another man who has been sniffing around Team Taz and their championships lately, Val Venis, comes in at number 4. A competitive victory over Brooks Jensen started Venis off on the right path to the Top 5. The post-match beatdown at the hands of the National Champion, Powerhouse Hobbs, wouldn't have been how Venis wanted to celebrate, but it doesn't detract from the achievement.
With the Vegas Connection at his back, and also his front or anywhere that cars might park, Venis has set a path for collision with Team Taz and lord help anyone who is nearby in the way when that powder-keg explodes.
Number 3: Darby Allin
Now we come on to one of only two people to retain their place in the Top 5, for the second week in a row, Darby Allin.
Darby's feud with Wyatt and co. has been one of brutality and grit. Darby's life has been a living hell and that was none more evident than on SLAM when everything came to a head in a brutal cemetery battle as Darby fought to save Vampiro from The Undertaker's clutches. A battle that resulted in Bray Wyatt being buried alive.
This wasn't the outcome that the empathetic Allin would have wanted. The question now is, can Darby put all this behind him and move on in life?
Number 2: Chris Jericho
The former EWA World Champion and self proclaimed GOAT wrestles his way onto the Top 5 this week, after dominant displays against both Alan "Arch" Angels and Ken Raper Jr.
Frustrated with his World Title match defeat at Civil War, Jericho has quickly re-asserted why he is not someone to be taken lightly. A mistake that young Dominik Mysterio may just be making. Despite the former champ's efforts to avoid all form of interaction with Mysterio it seems that Jericho has finally had one too many buttons pushed. Next week on SLAM the two are set to face off with Mysterio being able to pick the stipulation.
Which one of these two superstars has bitten off more than they can chew? Time will tell.
Number 1: Charlotte Flair
Mrs. Consistent.
We talked last installment about how Charlotte Flair was willing to step into the ring and represent the women's division, even when all sense says to take it slow. Well, Charlotte heard that and did one better. Not only was she competing, yet again, but this time the Women's Championship was on the line in a bout against EWA veteran, Alexa Bliss.
Despite Bliss' best efforts, it was Charlotte who continues her historic reign as women's champ. However, Charlotte's confidence may have nearly been her downfall this past episode of USA. Sasha Banks had the champ exactly where she wanted her. The title could, and probably would, have changed hands if the Civil War winner had pulled the trigger.
Perhaps this will lead to a change of tactic in our Women's Champion? Perhaps she will operate with more caution going forward? But this is Charlotte we're talking about, after all, and competition flows through her blood. With Sasha Banks in her sights and her title run inching closer and closer to breaking the record, the pressure is on for Flair.
