Biography:
Born into a quaint Kiwi home, Jay grew up fairly middle-class. They lived on a farm with plenty of sheep-rearing land, which meant the young White grew up rearing, butchering, preserving and carving meat from a young age. His knack for the knife, paired with the countless cuts and scars across his arms earned him the nickname Switchblade at a young age, though at that time it came with no tint of malice.
Jay was simply excellent with a knife, and always had at least one on him.
Needed something open, Jay got you.
Needed to cut some cake? Jay got you.
Animal caught in a fence? Jay got you.
There was just something about the knife, and the precision with which it could be used that facinated Jay. The more he cut, the more he carved, the more he butchered - the more facinated he got.
His obsession with the knife led to a range of hobbies beyond his farm responsibilities. He began to explore the culinary arts more, training under a local restaurants before moving to Auckland to work at The Grove. A nice restaurant job helped pay the bills and let his creative juices flow.
His years of farm work had him toned and cut, allowing to be reasonably good at athletic endeavours as well. Knives and athleticism led him to knife arts like Tantojutsu and Kali, before finally landing him training unofficially with some Kiwi SAS soldiers that he met at a martial arts gym.
Knife arts turned into general military-standard wrestling and hand-to-hand combat skills, jiu-jitsu and other takedown techniques. Having moved to Auckland for work, he discovered the world of amateur martial arts competitions and signed himself up for wrestling and jiu-jitsu meets which he soon realised he was pretty apt at.
It was at the after-party of one of these jiu-jitsu competitions that he met a younger, yet established Gedo. The two shared plenty of drinks, laughs and stories of their childhood - hilariously between Jay's thick Kiwi-accented-barely-English and Gedo's more elementary, Japanese-accented English. In a drunken stupor, Gedo suggested Jay head to Japan for work, he could continue to train as a chef while training with NJPW's Young Lions, under Gedo's very own supervision.
"Japan can use some... Dumbass" Gedo had said.
Jay's head chef thought it a great idea that Jay train professionally in Tokyo, and even connected him up to a friend's restaurant. Jay had nothing to lose, and embarked on a 5 year training program with the Young Lions, slowly making a name for himself in the Japanese Pro-Wrestling independent circuits. The name Switchblade stuck, and his calculated efficiency (from years of martial arts training) paired with fearlessness in the face of blood earned him the monicker Hakuma. Tokyo's own, White Devil.
Now at the age of 26, Jay was looking to make a name in the professional wrestling scene and with offers from both NJPW and EWA, he wanted nothing more than to test himself out against new blood. Fresh meat.
