Due to time constraints, Renee Young's interview with Drew McIntyre was unable to be shown on this week's EWA USA broadcast. We can now reveal this footage as an EWA.com exclusive instead:
---------------------------------------------------
We once again cut backstage to find Renee Young sat in a darkened room. Only this time, she's sat across from Drew McIntyre. The Scot wears a leather jacket, jeans, and a cold-as-iron look upon his face.
RENEE YOUNG: Drew, thank you for sitting down with me today.
Drew nods his head.
RENEE YOUNG: Let's get right down to it. Obviously, what is going on between you and Thom Latimer is as toxic a relationship as they come. You're at each other's throats and that probably won't change until you've fought one another in that ring. Simple question, has that always been the way between you two?
DREW McINTYRE: Yes...and no.
Drew doesn't hesitate to reply in the confusing manner. Renee screws her face up.
RENEE YOUNG: Care to elaborate?
DREW McINTYRE: Thom and I started out in this industry at the same time. We fought the same battles to get noticed. We fought each other just as often. We shed more blood in wrestling rings across the world in those few years than most would in their entire life. There's something about the way the energy in the room changes when we're around one another. Do you remember when I went to war with Pete Dunne last year, Renee?
RENEE YOUNG: Of course. Who could forget? Pete tried to end your career.
DREW McINTYRE: Aye, he did. The man even insulted my family. A line that every man in that locker room should know not to cross. Yet, he never came close to being the thorn in my side that Latimer is. Thom doesn't just know which buttons of mine to press, he was the man who put them there.
RENEE YOUNG: So, why bring him into the EWA? If you know what he's capable of, why would you let him be the one to stand at your back?
DREW McINTYRE: I was at my weakest point after SuperBrawl. Despite winning the Tag Team Championships, I was stumbling when I should've been learning to run. For years, despite how many times we'd taken each other to hell and back, Thom had been the one to drive me on. I fought hard on the indies because I knew that one day it might come down to him and me. I wasn't willing to be the one left in the dirt. So, what did Thom do? He pushed the right button. I listened to his advice when I should have slammed the door in his face.
Renee leans in closer.
RENEE YOUNG: But The Decree wasn't to last, was it?
Drew shakes his head slowly, as though mulling over something in his mind.
DREW McINTYRE: I should have seen it coming. From the moment he walked through that door, Latimer played me like a fiddle. I was never the leader of The Decree. Not really. I was a puppet being used to lift Latimer from one height to the next.
Suddenly, Drew smiles for the first time in this sit-down interview.
DREW McINTYRE: But, Latimer did what he always does. He overestimated himself. Latimer's a wild dog on a leash. He's not the evil mastermind that he likes to think he is. As soon as I was out of the picture, The Decree fell apart. When Wolfe and I found each other, we promised that we'd come out of the woodwork to destroy The Decree before moving on to bigger and better things. Imagine my surprise when The Decree was little more than an afterthought before I even stepped foot back through the door.
RENEE YOUNG: So, what's next between you two? When and where does this get settled? We've heard already that Commissioner Christian Cage has some kind of big announcement planned for SLAM! Any idea what that might be?
DREW McINTYRE: Honestly? I don't. But, as long as I can get my hands on The Chesterfield Plague once and for all then I really don't give a BEEP! what else Christian has to say. Thom is my mistake, and you can be sure as hell that I'll be the one to correct it.
Drew, having worked himself into a fluster, takes off the microphone that had been attached to his t-shirt and storms away. Desmond Wolfe briefly cuts into the shot in his stead.
DESMOND WOLFE: Thank you for sitting with us, Miss. Young. It's been our pleasure.
