SuperBrawl XXI

Twenty plus years later and here we are, the twenty-first SuperBrawl event. The Last Dance. This year the event will mark a new twist, with four teams being limited to three participants. The live draft will allow captains to draft all the champions in the EWA and also anyone else they see fit to help them in their quest to attain the gold. Will we see returns? Old faces? New faces? It's the one time of the year where anything could happen in the EWA and only the strongest and the luckiest survive.

This year's captains are the EWA World Heavyweight Champion CHRIS JERICHO who since returning at last year's SuperBrawl event, has proven to be every bit as crafty and cunning as World Champion as he ever was. Jericho has history with SuperBrawl, having led his team to victory twice, in back-to-back SuperBrawl events, the very first two.

The second captain is none other than the 2021 King of the Ring himself, SANTINO MARELLA! Although Marella has never captained a winning SuperBrawl team, he has plenty of experience in the match itself, in all of its incarnations, having been on a winning team THREE times in 2016, 2018 and 2019. It took Santino many years to finally win the King of the Ring, will this also be the year he finally wins in the captain's spot at SuperBrawl?

The third captain is DREW MCINTYRE, a seasoned veteran who has overcame the odds more than once and had quite a 2021 himself. McIntyre is a former Television Champion and winner of the wild multi-man Chamber of Horrors match earlier this year. He's flirted with the World Championship on more than one occasion and very nearly won Civil War. McIntyre is tired of being runner-up and wants to make his mark this year at the biggest dance of them all.

The final captain is MYSTERY MASKED MAN, who we know almost nothing about. On the 500th episode of Sunday Night SLAM, this masked man appeared and injured Jamie Noble, putting him on the shelf indefinitely. The same night he interfered in the World Championship match hitting Hangman Page with a steel chair and shortly after attempting to take out Chris Jericho. A few months later he took out Kevin Owens. Who is he? Why is he here? These answers remain unanswered but EWA have given this person a forum to be revealed as they must compete in the SuperBrawl match, but as a captain, the game is afoot and it could be open season on anyone in the E-Wrestling Alliance.

SuperBrawl is the match where history is made, legacies are written and the future is shaped. This year is no different, but the rules for the 21st SuperBrawl are slightly different.

The Basics of SuperBrawl XXI
Each team will have 3 men. One person from each team is in the ring at any given time, and eliminations come via pinfall or submission. When someone is eliminated, the next person from his team enters to replace him. When all 3 members of one team have been eliminated, that team is out. The match ends when all but one team has been eliminated, and the winning team's members will win the World Championship and two other titles.

What titles they win, will be left up to the team's captain. What titles end up where entirely depends on who wins and what they decide to cash in on.

The winning team will always get the EWA World Championship and that will go to the captain. If that winning team has another champion on their team, that champion will retain their title(s) and the next tier title will go to the last person on the team. (IE: If the National Champion is on the winning team, they will retain their title and the third member of the team will win the TV Title, or if the World Tag Champions are on a team, they will simply retain their titles.)

The National Championship, the World Tag Team Championships and the Television Championship will all be on the line.

If no champions are on the winning team, the captain will get the World Title and then will decide with his team what titles to give them. So they could walk away with the three singles titles, or the World and World Tag Team, should they chose to do so.

The remaining titles will then be awarded to whoever pinned the former champion during the match. So if Wrestler A eliminated the TV Champion and that title was not awarded to the winning team, then Wrestler A is now the TV Champion. The same goes for the World Tag Team and National Championships. This makes the champions in the match particularly vulnerable.

It should be noted that, although the Captains are by default put into the running for the World Championship, captains can choose, should they want to, to go after another belt. That will be decided the night of the event, for now we will assume that people will be drafted into the default spots.

In the match itself, people can enter in at any point, though typically captains enter last. It's not necessarily required. Captains will assign their own team order as they see fit.

As advantage heading into SuperBrawl as the World Champion, Chris Jericho receives first pick and a random draw was made to determine the order in which the remaining Captains would be able to make their picks. That order is:

1) Chris Jericho
2) Drew McIntyre
3) Santino Marella
4) Mystery Masked Man

HOWEVER, the 2021 King of the Ring gets to impose his rule on this event... Which means Santino Marella can JUMP the line at any point and draft before someone else. So Santino could take the first pick if he wants, or he could cut the line and draft ahead of anyone else at any point, he simply needs to chime in and say he's using his ROYAL DECREE and drafting ahead of time. This is ONE opportunity, so Santino is free to use it whenever he wants, but only once.

Starting with their first pick, each Captain will reveal their chosen team-mate until the first round of selections is over. Then, in that same order, each Captain will next announce their next pick as a single selection, this will continue until each Captain has selected the final member of their team.

The EWA World Tag Team Champions, the National and Television Champions MUST be drafted. So if by the time we get to 4th team and the World Tag Champions have not been selected, they will automatically be forced to have the EWA World Tag Team Champions become members of that team, rounding out the selections. Likewise, if the TV and National Champions are not selected in the first round, it is likely they will be automatically slotted in during the second round.

Finally once all teams are decided, Captains may make trades from their team to another team, should someone want to do so. If you don't like your team for some reason, perhaps you can convince your opponents to trade you some members for some reason or another. This has never happened before, but the option is available and has been every year and just maybe there is a first time for everything.

The entire EWA Universe is waiting on the World Champion to get the SuperBrawl XXI draft underway...but HOLD UP! Rather than opening up on Chris Jericho, we instead find Santino Marella! The current reigning EWA King of the Ring is sat reading a book in a fancy looking drawing room next to a fire. He seems totally engrossed, only to suddenly notice the camera watching him.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: Oh...hi, everybody! It's-a me, Santino Marella!

Santino closes the book and places it on the pile next to his chair before offering a grin.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: Y'know, I've-a been on a lotta Superb Brawl teams over the years, but I-a always dreamed of-a being Capitano one day, so it's-a pretty cool to finally earn this-a opportunity! The-a only thing is, nobody ever tolds me how-a hard it is to pick a team!

He looks a little flustered from the weight of Captain-dom, but rather than dwell on it, Santino quickly moves on.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: Well, I've-a talked it over with Horny and we both agree, I've gotsta choose guys who I can-a trust to have my backs. Lucky for-a me, I've had a bunch of-a tag teamed partners over the years who I could-a rely on! Trouble is, my-a first partner Damey* hasn't been seen in-a years! As for-a my second partner, well, me and-a Prawn Strongman** aren't egg-zactly on good terms right-a now after that jerkhole Richie Sparks paid him to beats me up. So I-a guess that leaves me with-a one option!

Wait a minute. He surely can't mean...?

KING SANTINO MARELLA: That's-a why I hereby provoke my-a RURAL DECREE to choose one guy who I-a know won't-a let me down...THE HONK-AND-TONK MAN!

The Italian Stallion grins confidently at the camera...only to suddenly turn serious.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: ...but-a definitely NOT that jerkhole Jelly "The King" Lawyer! Not after he tried to-a duff me up the other weeks! I mean, I'm-a not an idiot!

He lets out a light-hearted chuckle, seemingly little realizing just how foolish a choice this might be given how greedy and conniving The Honky Tonk Man can be...not to mention how much Honky and The King hate Santino's guts. But hey? It's SuperBrawl, a time for strange bedfellows...and if they could somehow work together despite their many, MANY differences two years ago, who's to say they can't do so again, right? Over to you, Chris Jericho!

* - That would be Damien Sandow, who after achieving Intellectual Enlightenment decided to go off in search of Spiritual Enlightenment as well
** - AKA Braun Strowman, who had his services bought out by Ricky Starks earlier this year, although he hasn't been seen since Drew McIntyre successfully defended the TV Title against him at Fight Night

We open up on Chris Jericho, the EWA World Champion, with the aforementioned championship belt over his shoulder. Jericho is standing in the foyer of his palatial estate. He has a somewhat uncharacteristic look on his face, but at the same time, this has been Jericho’s demeanor the past few weeks. He’s as serious as a heart attack.

CHRIS JERICHO: One year ago at this time, I had to sit back and watch as guys like Buff Bagwell and Jamie Noble sat back and wasted their draft picks with obscene overtures to wastes of space like Adam Page and Eddie Kingston. Hell, Buff Bagwell had his senile old mother out here making picks for him. Pathetic! Don’t expect me to make a circus of this whole thing! EWA is a time for the best of the best to shine, not for third rate jabronis to hog up the spotlight like clowns getting out of an undersized car. It was an embarrassment of the highest level.

He pauses for a moment, remembering back to last year and how he wasn’t allowed to be a part of the draft. His team was a surprise entrance, but it also meant he wasn’t afforded the luxury of the best picks. He had to settle for lesser talents and he’s already blamed them for his loss last year.

CHRIS JERICHO: All the while I was robbed of my opportunity to participate. Pushed aside as a “special attraction”, not even officially invited into the biggest match of the year. And you know what that did?

Chris Jericho smirks and pats the title across his shoulder.

CHRIS JERICHO: It made me mad! It made me vengeful! And most of all, it helped push me to secure this. I made everyone realize in the past year just exactly why they should have listened to me one year ago. I am Le Champion for a reason. I’m just that much better than everyone else in this company. Always have been, always will be. And where are the men who won last year? Absent. Gone. A bad memory. And as you saw last night, there are plenty of people trying to use their captain’s position to their advantage this year in hopes of creating a repeat, but quite frankly, it doesn’t matter. Because this year, unlike last year, I get to decide! I am the master of my own destiny!

The World Champion reflects for just a moment more.

CHRIS JERICHO: Which is why I wanted to make sure my picks this year were the best they could be. Now let’s be clear, EWA has already tried to screw me by giving Santino some absurd “royal decree” that allowed him to jump the line and get the first pick. But that blithering idiot wasted it as you might expect he would.

Jericho rolls his eyes at the 2021 King of the Ring and the mere thought of Honky Tonk Man as a real threat to anyone other than bad lounge singers.

CHRIS JERICHO: But wastefulness is not something I intend to do for any of my picks. I’ve looked over the roster and quite frankly, there isn’t a lot of talent in this company that I think are even worthy of being on my time. Team Le Champion is certain to win just as I have won in the past, but in order to do that, I need fighters. I need men with “skin in the game” as it were. So I’ve thought long and hard about this and my first pick is a man who, like me, has something to lose. When you have something on the line, you fight harder. And it just so happens that this man is one of the best in the company and believe it or not, one of the few I’ve learned to respect this past year. We have not always been on the same side, but he did defeat me earlier this year, even though I totally let him, and that makes him tough enough for me! So my first draft pick is the EWA National Champion, SHANNON MOORE!

Our screen flicks across to a beige living room where upon a large sofa that dominates the length of one of the walls is sat the former number one contender to the world heavyweight championship, the True King of Scotland, Drew McIntyre. He’s wearing a full suit and looking more regal than perhaps we’ve ever seen him.

DREW McINTYRE: It hasn’t even been a full year since I signed a development contract to come and work for the EWA. It hasn’t been a year since the biggest game in the industry gave me the one chance I would need to prove myself. In that time I’ve fought in PPV main events, even winning one, I’ve come within a breath of winning Civil War, and I’ve held championship gold.

Drew shakes his head.

DREW McINTYRE: But that’s not been enough for me. My debut year has been “good”, maybe even “great”. But it hasn’t been unforgettable. It hasn’t been the shining beacon of what it means to take an industry by storm. But it’s not too late.

Drew stands and walks over to a glass coffee table, upon which are a pile of documents, each of which appears to be a profile for the members of the EWA roster. The Scotsman picks up one, we’re unable to see who’s on it.

DREW McINTYRE: Superbrawl is the biggest event of the year. When I first arrived here in the EWA one of my many goals was to be drafted on to a team. I never thought in a million years that I’d be captaining one. Well, here I stand. I’ve spent hours upon hours staring at the roster, working through the pros and cons of each member. I thought about drafting the champions, I thought about drafting sure-fire Hall of Famers. But that didn’t sit well with me. I wanted people who are hungry, hungry to prove themselves in this industry and this company. People who haven’t already done everything there is to do and people who want more than anything to walk away from Superbrawl with gold over their shoulders.

Drew holds the first piece of paper up into the air.

DREW McINTYRE: With that in mind, my first draft is the Mile High Magnum, Dak Draper!

Due to the alignment of champions and the fact that every other team has selected an individual, the mystery masked man has been selected to draft the EWA World Tag Team Champions, GLENN GILBERTTI and JOHNNY SWINGER!

When notified of what happened in the draft, we received this message from the Mysterious Masked Man...

MASKED MAN: Blood is red.
Dead bodies are blue.
It doesn't matter who my partners are, EWA.
A day of reckoning is coming for YOU!

The mysterious unknown voice speaks out as a blue hazy fog fills the screen around him.

MASKED MAN: Like moths to the flame, you continue to draw closer into my grasp. The EWA has left a scar on my soul that only retribution can heal. Tread carefully now with your final picks, because the men you bring into this fight, will not leave SuperBrawl the same in which they came. Think long and hard about your choices. Think of the families. Think of the wives without husbands, the children without fathers. Think of what is coming. Think of the END! MWHAHAHAHA!

And just like that the unknown masked entity disappears into the blue smoke and fog.

We once again find the EWA World Champion sitting in his home. There’s an oversized mirror nearby, one we can imagine he has spent plenty of time staring at himself in. The EWA title belt is no longer over his shoulder, presumably returned to some display case as he looks into the camera, still with an utter seriousness about him.

CHRIS JERICHO: I can see that some of the other captains are taking this night seriously, but others still seem content to parade around with the buffoonery that has plagued this company this past year. All the masks and theatrics. Such fun. But having "fun" isn't what SuperBrawl is about. Victory requires more than flashy names and excitement. You have to make hard choices if you want to walk out the other side with your head held high. Do any of you have a real idea of what it takes to make a championship winning SuperBrawl team? Of course you don’t, because none of you have ever won a SuperBrawl before as captain. I have. Twice!

Although he’s more serious than recent months, Jericho still has a fair amount of braggadociousness about him.

CHRIS JERICHO: This mystery man, he’s been hiding in masks so long he can’t see the reality that’s standing in front of him. At SuperBrawl it’s no more games, no more hiding behind masks or doing sneak attacks. This is face to face combat and that’s why your team needs a member who’s an anchor. Someone who seems unpredictable to everyone else, but the captain knows exactly what he’s doing and when he’s doing it. A powerhouse in more ways than one. A warrior you can send into battle who isn’t afraid to get bloody and battered to do what is required of them. Someone who is different than my other teammate. Someone with nothing to lose. It’s the little things, but those are the traits that make the difference between a winning team and a losing one.

Chris Jericho leans back and gives one of his trademark smirks.

CHRIS JERICHO: That’s why I’ve thought long and hard about my final pick. Someone that no one would expect. Someone I know can get the job done. Someone who isn’t afraid to leave bodies in their wake. Someone who will destroy themselves to destroy their enemies. That man is my final pick, he is… JIMMY HAVOC!

DREW McINTYRE: Let’s keep this short and sweet. I told you my team will be filled with men who want to prove themselves, men who want to show they belong at the very top of the game. There’s one man whose brief here has been short, but I see that potential. I see that monster lurking inside of him. I want to unleash that monster. VLADIMIR KOZLOV!

It's hard to tell if he's joking or not, but knowing Santino...probably not.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: So let's-a not waste any times, shall we? For-a my final choice, I-a decided to reach out to one of-a the greatest E-Double-A superb stars of-a all the times! A former Superb Brawl winner himself! And a former World Heavenweight Champion...of-a the worlds! That's-a right...my pick is the one...the-a only...the King of-a Olds Cool...STEED CORINGO!

Steve Corino?!

CAMERAMAN: Uhhh...Santino, your last pick can't be Steve Corino.

The Italian Stallion looks sternly at the cameraman cutting in on his triumphant announcement.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: What the hecks are-a you talking about, man? Why can't I-a pick Steed Coringo?

CAMERAMAN: Because, the way the draft works, EVERY EWA Champion needs to be on a SuperBrawl team...and there's still one champion who hasn't been picked up by Chris Jericho, Drew McIntyre or the Mystery Masked Man.

KING SANTINO MARELLA: ...There-a is?!

CAMERAMAN: Yeah...the TV Champion! Danhausen!

Confusion reigns supreme on Santino's face...only for a playful grin to slowly form on his lips.

See?

KING SANTINO MARELLA: Ha ha ha! I was-a just yanking on your chains, man! Of-a course I knew that! And-a lucky for me, I was planning to-a pick DAN-HOWSER anyways! So-a there you have it! Team Santino is-a finally complete...and now we're-a gonna do our bestest to win Superb Brawl! Ciao for-a now!

Santino waves goodbye as the scene fades out to officially (and somewhat pointlessly) close out the 2021 SuperBrawl Draft...
