Mark Calaway, better known as The Undertaker, is an icon of the wrestling business. He is the most respected man in the locker room, and the most feared in the ring. The Undertaker was a staple in the WWF and some considered him the best in the business, but things started to shift when Shane McMahaon's EWA took hold and overcame the WWF. Things felt more or less the same at first, it was still The Undertaker's yard and he was still wrestling against the same guys that were with him in the WWF, but the landscape changed drastically over the next couple years. This wasn't the wrestling that The Undertaker knew, and even though he won championships under the new banner, things just didn't feel the same. It was like a cheap imitation, and he knew he had to leave before things eventually folded.
It's now been over a decade since The Undertaker has stepped foot in an EWA ring, but the EWA continues to run strong.
Today, more than ever, wrestling is a young man's game, though in recent years veteran stalwarts from DDP to Goldberg to Jerry Lawlor have challenged that notion. In the past when someone saw The Undertaker, they would offer him their utmost respect, now many see him as nothing but an old man. While Mark may be twice the age of most wrestlers today, he has a lifetime more experience and has been through battles today's young boys can only dream about. They would be fools to see nothing more than an old man. Well over a decade of staying in shape and not taking the abuses of a full time wrestling schedule is starting to make the EWA look a lot more appealing. The Deadman may not be what it once was, but Mark Calaway feels like he could be better than ever.
So what's left for an old man that's already been to the top of the mountain so many times before? If nothing else, to prove to himself that he can still be the one that strikes fear into the heart of every man that dares look him in the eye.
